First birthday for a child is pretty special, and it’s the only party where parental control over decor is possible. For my son, I know that time is drawing near when everything will be themed out to Disney’s Cars. There is nothing wrong with that of course. It’s his party after all, and this year we will most likely be having a Cars party. For this designer mommy however, I wanted his first birthday to be age appropriate, fun, as well as timeless.
What better inspiration than one of his favorite books as the basis for his first birthday party? We had cotton candy, balloon artist, tons of friends and subtle decorative elements from The Very Hungry Caterpillar. I kept the centerpieces simple and added pages from the book along with some fruit. Balloons and utensils were mix of colors. I found few items from the Eric Carle Museum {yes there is such a place}. We also had wonderful husband and wife photographers from Dez & Tam who captured these precious images for us.
Needless to say, it was quite a production for me and my husband. This year, we are having pizza and letting the kids run around at a park somewhere.
